Portrait of sustainable vegan ethical jeweller Leila smiling in the Kent lavender fields

hello there

I’m Leila!

I started designing jewellery in 2014, and what began as a hobby has grown to become my passion.

I launched Lilac Tree in 2017, joyfully creating sustainable, contemporary jewellery by hand in my studio in leafy west London using recycled precious metal, ethically-sourced gemstones, and cruelty-free processes.

getting started

I’ve been largely self-taught since the moment I first put blade to silver, having never studied art or design at school or uni. But I’ve always felt something creative inside of me, dying to come out.

My very first jewellery collection, circa 1988, featured my dear brother as a very willing model!

behind the name

My wonderful mum came up with the name Lilac Tree, inspired by the lilac tree that grew in my grandmother’s front garden that I loved as a child.

Every year when the lilac started to bloom, my friends and I would pick a few blossoms from the tree, mash them up with a little water, and hide them under our beds, excited at about the floral perfume we’d have by the end of the summer.

inspiration

My jewellery today reflects my passionate connection to nature, and I remain constantly inspired by its ever-changing forms. My designs always start with the stone - each one is selected with delicate precision, and is thoughtfully incorporated into precious metal to create contemporary heirlooms that I hope you will be proud to wear.
